Introducing Personal Art

Introducing Laura from Personal Art! If you'd like to have your business/hobby featured on a blog post, please use the Contact Us tab on our blog and send us your article! For tips on writing your article please read Writing a Blog Post. It's completely FREE!

I've been an artist for as long as I can remember, I studied art all through school, I then went on to study illustration at university. I'm at my happiest when I am ‘creating’ whether that be painting, renovating furniture, upcycling clothes or painting surfboards. I just can’t get enough of seeing what I am can make. So recently after 14 years in the rat race I finally broke free and opened Personal Art. An art company which transforms your photos into art. A lifelong dream coming to life, an art company with a difference.

The idea came about through meeting my now business partner on the Restaurant Tram in Melbourne. Warren an art lover and successful business man had plenty of ideas and had been trying out turning his photos into pieces of art. Then there was me, I had just been through a hell of a time at work and was looking for a new opportunity. It hadn’t crossed my mind at the time that a creative opportunity would come my way but as we got talking and I told Warren about the personalised art I was creating - our ideas started flowing and Personal Art was created.

Every art concept you see on the website was devised by myself. I had to create commercial ideas that I would market. Ultimately the majority are made using Photoshop, and use the same kind of techniques but I realised that the general person doesn't have the same kind of imagination I do so I had to come up with different concepts to inspire them. Pin Up Portraits was the first idea, creating beautiful fantasy sexy art. But this only appeals to a very small demographic, what about families and children? That's when Kandy Kids was created. Cute magical fairy tale artwork of children. This concept has proved to be the most popular.

My favourite concepts are Typo Face and Comic Strips. Typo Face is typography art, making images out of words. it is what U call ‘Smart Art’ allowing you to convey any message through images. Comic Strips are just awesome, tell me a story and give me photos of the characters and I will turn that into your very own personalised comic strip.

As well as these there are Comic Characters, Abstract, Pop Art, Graffiti, Monsters, Caricatures and more. I can’t take credit for all the art produced. Once I figured out my art concepts I went to find some specialists. Majic from the Phillipines designs the comic strips, he is an award winning comic designer and has his own comic called Big Fat Ben. Razvan is a genius with typography and he produces some of the Typo Faces. Then there is Raf who is a true genius on Photoshop who creates some of the Pin Up Portraits and Kandy Kids pieces.

I couldn’t do it without these guys, not to mention a few others. Personal Art is a collaboration of creativity from across the globe. It is not just an art company but also a platform for artists to make a name for themselves. My company vision is to ‘Revolutionise Art”. Bringing commercial design ideas into the everyday home, giving customer very reasonable prices that are affordable because all the pricing is driven from the artists. I’ve searched high and low for a similar company, there are a few who will Pop Art your photo but not to the quality of ours, ours are hand painted.

Every single product created is created from the customers photos, no two pieces are ever the same. I create a design brief with every single customer ensuring we create what they want and not what we want to create. After all no unknown artist made big money creating what he wanted to. We create 100% original unique and personal artwork with huge sentimental value. There is nothing better than seeing the customer cry with tears of joy on receiving their artwork.

Introducing Glam Faerie

Introducing Katie from Glam Faerie. If you'd like to have your business/hobby featured on a blog post, please use the Contact Us tab on our blog and send us your article! For tips on writing your article please read Writing a Blog Post. It's completely FREE!
My name is Katie, I'm a 40-odd year old who refuses (most ungraciously at times) to grow up, and I enjoy all things feminine and whimsical. For a long time I thought I'd been born in the wrong era because of my love for an early to mid-20th century aesthetic but now I enjoy living in a time when it is perfectly acceptable to explore a range of styles based on my ever-changing mood.
I live with the totally divine William Wallace, my darling puss cat to whom I am devoted (and he to me). Our house is affectionately known as 'Casa Loco' and we spend a lot of time in the nook where I like to create Glam Faerie accessories and crazy nail designs; all while enjoying a soul-lifting view of Melbourne's Dandenong Ranges. With William purring contentedly beside me, it's very close to heaven.
I also spend far too much time on Pinterest (www.pinterest.com/GlamFaerie), Etsy (www.etsy.com/shop/GlamFaerie) and I've recently taken to blogging (http://.faerieofglam.blogspot.com.au), as well as having just setting up a store on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/GlamFaerie).
The Glam Faerie accessories range includes pieces for your hair, barefoot sandals, shoe bling and chameleons.
Hair Accessories
No hairstyling ability is necessary with this fool-proof method of glamming up your hair-do - every ponytail becomes a work of art
Chameleons
These versatile little goodies adapt to their environment - hence the name!
With a variety of fastenings, you can use Chameleons to dress up pretty much anything you can think of: hats, scarves, handbags...even lamp shades!
Footsies & Shoe Bling
Instead of spending a fortune on a wardrobe full of shoes, embellish your favourites with our unique shoe and foot enhancements. Even bare feet can be glam!
This temporary solution to a permanent problem couldn't be any easier. Simply attach the enhancement of your choice and remove when you fancy a new look.

Thanks Katie for introducing us to Glam Faerie! All the best in the future :D

I am Melynda of www.facebook.com/MelyndaMade who is a mum of a gorgeous one year old boy.  I have always loved all kinds of craft but have been absent from all forms for 17 years while studying and working. Maternity leave gave me a chance to reunite my passion and it started as I couldn’t find affordable and comfortable maternity clothes.  I was so comfortable in my skirts that I wanted every other pregnant lady to feel the same (this can extend to anyone with a fuller tummy... I still wear my skirts now at times!!).  I had a recent custom order for pants and they are just as comfortable so I will continue these.  I also make kids reversible pinafores and shorts as I have motivation to do so for my son and all my friends’ children.  Custom orders are welcome and I try to keep my prices down for you by purchasing sale fabric...I do have a room full!!
You can find me in two locations:
www.facebook.com/MelyndaMade &  www.etsy.com/shop/MelyndaMade.
I hope to have a chat with you soon and please enjoy all that handmade has to offer.

Thanks Melynda for introducing us all to Melynda Made! I wish you all the best in the future x

Introducing Whirly Gig Kids

Introducing Leigh from Whirly Gig Kids. If you'd like to have your business/hobby featured on a blog post, please use the Contact Us tab on our blog and send us your article! For tips on writing your article please read Writing a Blog Post. It's completely FREE!

I am a mum to two very busy little people and also have a part-time job. So Im not really a SAHM or a work from home mum, but in a sense I do all I find that I really need a creative outlet and this is how Whirly Gig Kids was born. Whilst my life is very busy and manic most of the time, I need some ‘me’ time and I find that the sewing machine and creativity gives me that.
Whirly Gig Kids officially started in January, although I had been selling under another name for some time. I feel that I’m now starting to really get a hold of my ‘niche’ in the handmade world and the products that I enjoy creating. I guess I started selling because there were really only so many of my designs that my children and friends children needed – but I wanted to keep designing and sewing. My range includes a sweet set of “creature cushions” which are essentially animal design cushion or stool covers to brighten your little persons space. I also have a “pattern” range which includes hearts, stars and other designs to fit in with coordinated colour schemes. These are my FAVOURITE product and I love to make them.
I also enjoy working with gorgeous materials and creating One Of A Kind products. Another range that I’m exploring at the moment is unique OOAK cubby curtains using designer fabrics and with matching bunting. Abolish the bland gingham curtains I say and introduce some fab OOAK colour into your little people’s fantasy world. I love them but they are still in development phase and I need further feedback from customers and likers.
Im grateful for the likers and purchasers that are supporting me on this journey. I also appreciate feedback and ideas. You can find me at the following places: www.facebook.com/WhirlyGigKids  &  www.madeit.com.au/WhirlyGigKids

Thanks Leigh for introducing us all to Whirly Gig Kids! All the very best for the future x

Why Handmade seems so expensive.... by Dino Dust

My good friend, Vicki from Dino Dust, shared her latest blog post with me just a few moments ago. It's a fantastic read and I really think it is well worth the time.

Before my handmade hobby came into being I remember looking at the prices of some of the handmade items out there and almost having a heart attack at the prices.  In my mind there was no way the items were worth the $$$ they were asking for.  As I’ve been sewing for 20+ years, I knew that I’d be able to make those clothes for less.  I did, and I enjoyed it, and I saved a lot of money!  When the requests by family and friends started coming thick and thin, along with offers of payment, I had to sit down and think about what to charge.  THIS was the eye opener for me.  So let me try and explain why a $4 T-shirt from Best n Less, all of a sudden costs $24-30 once an appliqué has been added to it!

First off, you obviously have to pay for the T-Shirt.  You then also have to factor in the cost of a Fat Quarter of fabric, yes you mightn't have that much material added to your shirt but in a lot of cases that fabric can’t be/won’t be used on anything else.  There’s the glue/bonding agent that holds the appliqué on and interfacing is used if it is sewn by machine.  The final ingredient in this recipe is the thread.

T-shirt $4
Material $4
Bonding $1
Thread $1
Subtotal $10

Still seems so cheap, so why do we sell for so much more?  Profit?  Not in the handmade world.

Introducing Embalm Skincare

Introducing Mel, from Embalm Skincare. If you'd like to be a featured blog post please contact us via the tab above :)

Embalm Skincare – A Boutique Skincare Range with Passion  In today's world, many skincare products use selective "natural ingredients" or "natural actives" claims on their packaging; making consumers believe they are safe to use. But many products are not what they claim to be and contain ingredients which can be damaging to your skin and – even worse – to your health. While natural ingredients may be present, the fact is, many of these products still use synthetic chemicals and artificial ingredients in conjunction with natural ingredients.
Many of those ingredients are known carcinogens (cancer-causing substances) and are used by the cosmetic industry simply because they are cheap. That’s why Embalm Skincare was launched; to provide consumers with a 100% natural skincare range and the entire range is also vegan-friendly.
The owner, Mel, believes in the therapeutic powers of nature and the Embalm Skincare products are filled with plant-derived nutrients to naturally preserve and rejuvenate your skin. The range consists of five products, with two more products currently in development. The range:2-in-1 Cleanser & Toner: A luxurious daily 2-in-1 Cleanser & Toner boosts the recovery of the skin’s natural moisture and elasticity. Antioxidants in combination with natural Cupuacu butter leave the skin soft, smooth and radiant while also gently removing oil, dirt, make-up and surface impurities from the skin.
Face Cream: Daily Face Cream to improve skin rejuvenation and promote natural, radiant glow. Green tea extract, rosehip, wheat germ oil and vitamin E lock in moisture, helping to restore elasticity and promote healthy looking skin. Ideal for the daily care of all skin types.
Body Lotion: A beneficial blend of Shea butter, rice bran oil and vitamin E soothes and stimulates the appearance of the skin while cocoa butter nourishes and softens the skin.
Hand Cream: Easily absorbed, this nutrient-rich cream softens the skin and provides instant protection from the elements and relief to dry skin.
Lip Balm: Soothes, softens and conditions dry lips. Contains vitamin E to prevent dry and chapped lips.
Embalm is more than beauty; it’s about preserving and protecting your skin naturally. The full product range is available online.
